Without imagination working freely, I doubt that technique alone will be enough ...
Liberating the students’ imagination, physical prowess and psychological understanding of performing and characters through playing, experimenting, and conscious decision making WITHOUT the fear of "what if I get it wrong?" is the cornerstone of training at the Melbourne Acting Studio.
It is my experience that if a student is encouraged to try everything that comes to mind in the creative environment, with the 'fear of failure' pushed firmly into the background, then we are able to witness some remarkable qualities from every actor.
A supported actor, able to achieve a certain abandonment of convention and stereotype, coupled with technical necessities, has the opportunity to bring their own unique qualities to the worlds of their characters.
It is, after all, YOUR CREATION.
As a teacher, my commitment to my students is three-fold: As a person ... as an actor ... and, as an artist. I accept the responsibility of these components, as desirable, necessary and exciting.
