Typically, students join Melbourne Acting Studio for a minimum of 10 weeks; one session of three hours duration per week, to train with others. Classes have a maximum of eight people.
Training encompasses a wide variety of exercises and techniques designed to equip you for the most original and interesting performances possible.
Your imagination, your understanding of body movement, rhythms of speech, interpretation of scripts and character are all of great importance to us. As are the practicalities of working requirements in this industry of performing art.
An understanding of stereotypes, why they exist and how to move beyond them is also a major theme you will explore, giving you an understanding of how the brain works in its creative mode. Working with scripts is an integral part of training and you will be constantly using these scripts to explore many possibilities, the obvious and not so obvious.
The 'training room' is not seen as a place of finished product, rather it is seen as a place to try as many variables as we can think of in acting. We do this to push the limits of your creative thinking and artistic endeavours way beyond what you thought was possible. This is what we aim for and this is what we are known for.
All training is carried out in an environment that holds the 'joy of exploration' over and above the need to 'get things right'. It is in this kind of atmosphere that we have developed some of the acting industry's more exciting (and employable) actors and actresses.
